Faster services from Talk Talk !

Gosh - Wansford has some new equipment.

Talk Talk have installed their own equipment in the BT exchange at Wansford, so they can now supply ADSL2+ services to our area. They may not have the best reputation, and we all hate call centres, but T-T can now offer line rental with evening & weekend calls and broadband for under £20 per month.

ADSL2+ will mean speed increases to over 8M for most Wansford and Yarwell residents. Further out you may also gain a few hundred kbits/s which might be significant in Wittering.

  1. I have recently spoken to a TalkTalk door to door sales man who advised me our line speed should be arround 4.5Mb on St Michaels Road, Wittering.

Before I joined the service I used to provision broadband for PlusNet and Orange so I am not easily fooled.

After doing some digging around and asking some colleagues who still work in the trade it seems TalkTalk are not using any additional equiptment at this time and was simply a sales gag.

If you check THEIR speedtester at http://www.talktalkmembers.com/content/view/142/156/

It will still show the usual slow line rates. Further to this if you look at their exchange availability unfortunatly WANSFORD is NOT on the list!

It would be interesting to see if anyone has taken up on their services and are receiving in excess of 2Mb.

I'm seriously considering Tooway. Yes its a little bit more expensive but at least i'll be able to get online!

Just thought I'd share this with you all.

  2. Talk Talk have installed equipment in Wansford. The status on their exchange checker (as above) says "State: Live" which isn't what it would say if it was planned or unavailable.

I've just come from a customer in Nassington getting 2044 downstream / 1017 upstream ADSL2 which isn't available from BT kit. So the present of T-T kit is beyond doubt.

I wouldn't expect 4.5M in Wittering, at that distance the new kit may make 300-500k difference over standard ADSL, but that's all.

In Wansford itself, at least north of the river, I would expect 12 - 20M.
